Unplug & Relax
Technology makes it easier to communicate, but it also makes us feel increasingly disconnected from each other. Studies show that people are addicted to checking social media, texts, and email…on the average of once every 6 minutes* Our electronic gadgets are contributing to stress in our lives. Here are some tips on how to take a break, recharge, and connect with friends and loved ones:
- Set aside your technology so your brain can have some time to process the information it has received during the day
- Take time to appreciate the things around you such as a sunset or the smell of a neighbor’s BBQ and take in the natural rhythm of your home and neighborhood
- Enforce tech-free time at home so you can have opportunities to hold a conversation with friends and family. Focus your attention on the people around you and connect with each other.
- Let people know that you have scheduled some downtime so they don’t expect your constant presence on social media, or email
- Go on a social media diet for a month
- De-clutter your spaces
- Dedicate a comfortable place in your home as a tech-free zone, where you can relax free of distractions, look out the window, close your eyes and daydream
- Take deep breaths so you can calm yourself and lower your heart rate
- Add natural elements to your home, such as a few low maintenance houseplants
- Add touches of comfort to every room such as soft blankets and high quality sheets in the bedroom
